22 Things to Do in Poipu – Something for Everyone!
Longitude 21.9 degrees N, Latitude 159.5 degrees W = Poipu Hawaii. Did you know that Poipu means "crashing waves"?
BEACHES TO VISIT:
Poipu Beach Park: This is a nice family beach. It is protected, safe and ideal for swimming. There are also a couple of snorkel and scuba diving spots. The endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal and Hawaiian Sea turtles can often be seen sunbathing on the beach. If you happen to see them, remember they are proteccted so never approach them.
Shipwrecks Beach: Is known for its easy to catch body boarding and body surfing waves. There is a protected area for swimming and snorkeling. For the experienced surfer, there are surf breaks offshore.
Baby Beach: A gentle protected cove perfect for very young children. Calm shallow waters makes this tiny crescent shaped beach an ideal choice for babies. Public beach access is located between homes at #5142 and #5152.
Lawai Beach: On Spouting Horn Road you will find a narrow strip of sand that offers good snorkeling in calm waters with offshore surf breaks for the surfer.
Mahaulepu Beach: Idyllic stretch of golden sand that is truly remote. Only accessible on a cane road (4 wheel drive recommended). There is a guard house and the beach closes at 6:00 p.m. and hours are strictly enforced. Public is allowed at their own risk. This is popular for windsurfing, swimming, snorkeling and fishing.
